Arab Intellectuals in the Modern World

Course Description:

This course focuses on selected topics in Arabic intellectual history during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The course will look at debates about Arab nationalism, socialism, and Islamism as well as a variety of issues such as democracy, social justice, gender, heresy, pluralism, and globalization. (This is a cross-listed course, limited to 5 Liberal Studies students.)
