Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies

Mass Media and Society

Course Description:

In this course, you will take a close look at mass communication in our society, in many forms. Many folks equate mass communication with newspapers or television, or -- in the past few years -- the Web. All of these are examples of mass communication, but the concept is far broader. The MP3 file you listen to, the novel that you read, and the movies that you see all are forms of mass communication too. Students take a close look at many different forms of mass communication: What do they communicate? Why? Whose interests are being served? Whose interests are not being served?
