Messaging has become increasingly important as organizations attempt to cultivate brand names and customer loyalty. As a result, copywriting has become an increasingly valuable skill set.
A copywriter writes text, or copy, for advertisements and commercials with the intent to persuade the audience. This requires the ability and talent to process input (i.e. from a client or market research) and translate that into a clear and focused message.
Students will learn methods for clearly defining the all important message and study the techniques for creating effective written pieces. Under the guidance of the instructor, you will work on real-life assignments to add to your portfolio. Examples of successful and not-so-successful creative pieces will compared, and various types of written material including print ads, taglines, commercial scripts, direct mail pieces, and website content will be reviewed and critiqued.
