July 4-11, 2010
How can you transform a passion for sports into a successful career? What opportunities exist to get into the game? Georgetown University will introduce you to the increasing career options in the sports industry—a $250 billion-a-year business that continues to be one of the fastest-growing fields in the world. You’ll go behind the scenes to learn how events on the field, in the front office, and behind the camera are intricately linked to boardrooms, retail locations, and homes around the country.
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the exciting sports management career tracks, including team, league, and player promotions; marketing and brand management; financing and contract negotiations; facility management; cultivating fans with new media; and community relations. Georgetown’s faculty and program advisory board include a prominent USA Today sports columnist, the chief operating officer of Players, Inc., and executives from the Washington Capitals, Washington Redskins, and Washington Nationals. Experts like these, along with professionals from sports-related businesses and nonprofits, will share with you their experiences, opinions, and perspectives on how to score a successful career in sports.
