Course Description:
According to Peter Block, a consultant is a person in a position to have some influence over an individual, a group, or an organization, but who has no direct power to make changes or implement programs. The minute you take direct control, you are acting as a manager. In this workshop the role of the diversity consultant (internal and external) will be clarified. This program is designed to provide experiential and didactic learning. Participants will experience the action research model (client agreement, data gathering, diagnosis, feedback, intervention and closure). This is a practice oriented program in which students apply various concepts, techniques, and abilities identified in work experiences to meet the following outcomes:
- Assess one’s own skills and abilities as a diversity consultant: identifying strengths and areas for future professional development
- Effectively meet a diversity improvement need of an organization within the confines of process consultation and the time frame of the program
- Work effectively with a team of peers to service the client and to support one’s own learning
