How HUD Works

This course offers the perspective of a very senior government official upon the operations of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, an agency with vast impact  upon the housing market and the wider real estate economy.  The impact of the mortgage financial crisis upon HUD naturally is singled out for special attention, including the powers of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) to issue foreclosure moratoriums, as well as the operations of the Government National Mortgage Administration (GNMA).  The course describes and analyzes programs like the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), HOPE VI, and the Gulf Coast Disaster Response Program. The course also discusses HUD's role in enforcing real estate consumer protection statutes such as the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA) and the Interstate Land Sales Act.  Finally, the course gives special attention to the management systems integration issues of real estate organizations and government agencies.
