Energy Issues in Real Estate
| Course Number: | MPRE706 |
This course starts from the proposition that energy is, at the core, a real estate business. An important part of managing or investing in any property is understanding how energy can best be produced on and consumed at the property. The course details how the current structure of the energy industry affects all types of real estate -- residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional – and how societal shifts towards energy conservation and renewable sources have affected recent real estate transactions and may increasingly do so in the future. The course does not assume that students arrive with any special knowledge of energy use, engineering, or finance. Technical detail and jargon will be kept to the minimum required for thoughtful professionals to understand the energy concepts, trade-offs, and analyses they will face in real estate transactions and management.
