Theories of Motivation

Motivating people to accomplish objectives and results is a core leadership challenge. This course will focus on different theories of motivation that can be used as frameworks to inform and guide leaders.  Theories examined will include needs theories, expectancy theory, goal-setting theory, feedback theory, equity theory, reinforcement theory, and social learning theory.  These theories will be applied to practical problems of how to motivate people in public and private sector organizations.
