Covering Capitol Hill

Course Description:

The course is designed to have each student serve as a mock congressional correspondent for a specific publication.  Students will be assigned a "beat" for the semester.  Class presentations will include discussions of the procedures of Congress, what members of Congress actually do all day, the confluence of money and politics and techniques for reporting on the people, the institution and the process. Emphasis will be given to understanding the interests of your readers when determining what is really newsworthy. Students are expected to cover events on Capitol Hill, and to keep up with news and issues on their "beat."
