Since joining Baker Hostetler’s legislative practice in 2001, Josh Alkin has served as a primary advisor to the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. In that capacity, Josh has acted as liaison between the Commissioner's office and Congress and the White House. He has worked with the House and Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees, as well as the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee educating Members of Congress and their staffs on a diverse array of issues, including antitrust, immigration, and homeland security issues.

Greg Bibb recently completed his first season at the helm of the Washington Mystics as the team's Chief Operating Officer. Bibb joined the organization on October 1, 2007. Under his leadership, the Mystics have experienced a tremendous amount of business growth. The team enjoyed a 15% jump in ticket revenue and a 26% increase in corporate sponsorship.

Joe Briggs

Born and raised in Dundee, Florida, Joe Briggs was a scholarship athlete at Texas Christian University earning three varsity letters while also being a committed student leader on campus. After working in Corporate America for a few years, Joe transitioned into education as the Special Assistant to the President of Florida A&M University while also pursuing a master’s degree at the same institution. Once he completed his master’s degree, Joe decided to further his education goals once again at the Florida State University College of Law where he earned his juris doctorate in 2006.

Tom DePaso currently serves as Associate General Counsel for the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). Duties include filing grievances under the NFL-NFLPA CBA, mediating player/agent grievances pursuant to the NFLPA Regulations Governing Contract Advisors, and prosecuting disciplinary cases under those Regulations. He acts as attorney to the Professional Athletes Foundation (charitable organization which provides funds to needy former players) and provides legal services for the NFL Coaches Association. DePaso is also a member of the salary cap committee which sets the NFL’s salary cap under the CBA each season. Previously, DePaso performed similar responsibilities for players in the United States Football League Players Association and Arena Football League Players Association.

Washington has earned the Dick Dillman Award as the top media relations staff in the NHL’s Eastern Conference each of the last three years. Ewell, who is the co-founder and co-owner of InsideCollegeHockey.com, was a writer and researcher for NBC Sports at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games.

Sports and Entertainment Commission with the primary responsibility of leading the District of Columbia's efforts to bring Major League Baseball back to the Nation's Capital, a project that was successfully completed with the announcement in September 2004 of the relocation of the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals.

Mr. Harvey serves as Co-Owner and President of the Washington Bayhawks, a franchise operating in Major League Lacrosse. He has led the team’s re-location from Baltimore to Washington DC and negotiated a 3 year agreement to play home games at Navy-Marine Corps in Annapolis, MD. Mr. Harvey serves on the boards of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, the Tewaaraton Award Foundation, Winners Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter. He belongs to the Potomac Officers Club and is a member of the University Club of Washington DC, where he is Chair of the Squash Committee.

Karen Irish is in her second stint with the United State Olympic Committee (USOC), serving as Government Relations Manager.  Previously, she spent four years at the U.S. Soccer Foundation as Director of Public-Private Partnerships. There, Irish worked closely with U.S.S.F. partners, was in charge of a program with the EPA to turn brown fields into soccer fields and oversaw the development of the "Make Sun Safety Your Goal" campaign.

Currently the Public Policy Director of the Women's Sports Foundation, Terri Lakowski is responsible for the operation of the Foundation's Public Policy Department, which provides education, advocacy and legal assistance to hundreds of parents, coaches, athletes and administrators who contact the Foundation regarding situations of gender discrimination in sport. She oversees the execution of all of the Foundation's advocacy and public policy projects, such as participating in press conferences and Congressional lobbying activities to advocate on behalf of Title IX and other gender discrimination laws and developing state and local education and advocacy initiatives to improve athletic opportunities for girls and individuals with disabilities in both school and community recreational athletic programs.

After receiving his Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science from Morehouse College in 1983 and his Juris Doctor Degree from Howard University School of Law in 1987, Arthur McAfee began his career in sports law and sports administration in 1987 as a NCAA Enforcement Representative. Between 1987 and 1993, his duties at the NCAA included representing the NCAA before the NCAA Committee on Infractions against universities and institutions for violations of NCAA legislation. Cases in which he was involved that led to sanctions include: University of Missouri Men’s Basketball, Auburn University Football, University of Texas Pan-American Men’s Basketball, and University of New Mexico Men’s Track and Field.

McPhee has assembled a Capitals organization that has grown from a lottery team to Southeast Division champions in 2007-08.

In addition, the team boasts the largest stadium in the NFL with over 91,000 seats and one of the most avid fan bases in professional sports with over 200,000 persons on its wait list for season tickets. The Redskins' manage a vast array of media assets include; print, radio, 5 TV shows, VOD library, a top 5 NFL website, stadium signage and numerous in-market events. In addition to sales & marketing Rod is responsible for the team's foray into new media including; advergames, widgets, Redskins' Direct a desktop application and enhanced / interactive TV.

United advertising. He has twice been honored as the MLS Marketing Executive of the Year, winning the award in consecutive years (2004 & 2005). He joined the club in 1996 from Arnold Advertising in McLean, VA where, from 1995-1996, he was an account executive on the agency's D.C United account. O'Connor began his advertising career with Earle Palmer Brown in Bethesda, MD before moving to Trahan, Burden and Charles in Baltimore where he worked with the Harrah's Casino account, among others.

After careers as an award-winning radio journalist in New York City and as a marketing and special events executive in Vail, CO, Kevin Payne became the National Administrator, and the Director of Marketing of the United States Soccer Federation in 1989. In 1991, he moved to New York and became the Executive Vice President and, ultimately, the President of Soccer USA Partners, which owned all marketing, broadcast and event promotion rights to the U.S. National Team leading up to the 1994 World Cup.

In his seventh season with the Wizards organization, Tommy Sheppard is in his 16th year of service to the NBA. As Washington’s Vice President of Basketball Administration, Sheppard assists with the day-to-day operations of a basketball department that brought three All-Stars in Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler to Washington, and added veteran experience to the Wizards’ core with Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Fabricio Oberto and DeShawn Stevenson. After Washington’s streak of four consecutive appearances in the NBA Playoffs was snapped last season, Sheppard played a pivotal role in bringing head coach Flip Saunders to the nation’s capital, giving the Wizards a perfect match between their veteran players and experienced coaching staff. Previously, in the summer of 2008, Sheppard played an integral role in the re-signing of both Arenas and Jamison.

David Touhey came to Washington, D.C.’s Verizon Center in March of 2004 and was named to his current position as Vice President of Booking & Entertainment in October of 2007.  Touhey is responsible for managing the entire event calendar for Verizon Center, as well as the world-class events hosted at the arena on an annual basis. Touhey aggressively books acts to perform in the facility and ensures they are properly marketed and communicated to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  He currently serves on the Executive Committee of Arena Network and is Chair of the International Association of Assembly Manager’s Membership Committee, as well as serving on the Association’s Industry Affairs Council.

He is responsible for managing and guiding the strategic direction of the consulting practice and for developing relationships with clients. He is also the Chairman of the Fantasy Sports Association, a trade organization dedicated to growing the fantasy sports industry. Prior to joining FSV in September 2006, he served as the senior vice president of the NFL Players Association's licensing and marketing arm (PLAYERS INC) for 13 years.

During the 15+ years Brett Weinroth spent in sports marketing, he worked for his hometown Philadelphia Eagles, led corporate sponsorship sales efforts for senior tennis featuring legends Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, and developed unique revenue generating programs for some of Octagon’s most visible clients and properties in their Athletes & Personalities division.   Brett’s current efforts are less focused on sports stars and more on helping affluent families spend more quality time together.  As the Regional Director for Exclusive Resorts, he is the key sales executive in the Mid-Atlantic for the world’s leading luxury destination club chaired by Steve Case, the former co-founder of AOL.
