Photo of Josh Alkin Since joining Baker Hostetler's legislative practice in 2001, Josh Alkin has served as a primary advisor to the Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball. In that capacity, Josh has acted as liaison between the Commissioner's office and Congress and the White House. He has worked with the House and Senate Judiciary and Commerce Committees, as well as the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee educating Members of Congress and their staffs on a diverse array of issues, including antitrust, immigration, and homeland security issues.

Vlad Babin
Vlad Babin has over fifteen years of experience in the financial world (investment banking and corporate finance, brokerage, retail banking, and insurance). Over six years he worked for an international investment bank on Wall Street in New York. As a member of the Finance & Accounting Control Group within the Global Capital Markets, he controlled Global Rates and Global Commercial Real Estate businesses. He also spent five years in brokerage (equity trading, risk management and asset management – fully licensed by NASD) in Chicago. Currently Vlad Babin is a bank examiner with the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).   Mr. Babin has over seven years of teaching experience in graduate, undergraduate and professional programs. In addition to teaching at Georgetown University, he has taught financial courses at Adelphi University and Baruch College in New York; at Northeastern Illinois University and Roosevelt University in Chicago. He has taught Corporate Finance, Fixed Income Markets, Derivatives Markets, and Investment Analysis. He holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting from Loyola University Chicago. Mr. Babin served in the United States Marine Corps.

Tricia Barry currently serves as the Director of Events for the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, the regional sports commission. In this role, Barry is responsible for overseeing the logistical coordination, vendor management, PR and communications, fundraising and marketing efforts, staffing, budgeting and execution of sporting, community and special events such as the National Marathon and Half Marathon, the National Health & Fitness Expo, the Tewaaraton Award, SneakerBall, Washington Mystics Community Day, Great Pumpkin 5k and the 2011 Army Navy Game/Gala.

Photo of Steve Beck Steve Beck currently serves as the President/Executive Director of the Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman.  In this role, Beck is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the re-branded Military Bowl. He serves as the liaison between the teams and conferences, in terms of contract negotiations and team selection. Beck assists in developing the board, and also oversees and develops the bowl’s budgets, as well as the marketing and advertising plans and contracts. Steve was hired for this position in October 2008 for the inaugural game.

Brooke Beyer
Photo of Brooke Beyer Brooke A. Beyer, Jr., was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and graduated from Georgetown University with a B.S.B.A. in 1987. He received his J.D. from the University of Maryland in 1991. Prior to coming to NASCAR in 2002, Mr. Beyer worked for various law firms and in the publishing industry as a writer and editor before landing at Allen’s Trademark Digest as the editor-in-chief and business manager for several years. After two years as a trademark examining attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark, Mr. Beyer joined NASCAR, Inc.'s Charlotte Legal Department as Associate Licensing Counsel and now holds the position of Assistant General Counsel. His primary responsibilities at NASCAR include: sponsorship, entitlement and licensing contract drafting and negotiation; intellectual property; and NASCAR Foundation. Mr. Beyer also manages NASCAR's legal offices in Charlotte and New York City.

Over the course of his tenure with Disson Skating, he has produced over one-hundred (100) nationally televised events which have aired on NBC, CBS, ESPN and USA Networks. Bockelman specializes in handling the many details and aspects of implementing successful figure skating events, including sponsorship fulfillment, sponsorship development, and operations of events. In 2003, Bockelman supervised the production of the Daytime Emmy Award nominated program entitled “Scott Hamilton and Friends.”

After working in corporate America for a few years, Mr. Briggs transitioned into education as the Special Assistant to the President of Florida A&M University while also pursuing a master's degree at the same institution as a State University System Fellow. Once he completed his master's degree, Mr. Briggs decided to further his education goals once again at the Florida State University College of Law earning his juris doctorate in 2006.

Ellie Cox
Photo of Ellie Cox Ellie joined AFH in January 2009 as a Director in order to lead both resource development and new program development for youth. Over the past 20 years she has worked both nationally and internationally to promote philanthropy, engage in innovative corporate social responsibility projects, and raise funds for both non-profit and for-profit ventures that served to improve quality of life for people and communities in need. She developed a passion for social justice issues as ED of a program serving at-risk youth, which eventually lead to a career with United Ways (Las Vegas, Pennsylvania, Maryland and at United Way of America), Sylvan Learning Systems, and The Open Society Institute – Baltimore. Ellie serves on the board of the Public Justice Center in Baltimore and on the membership committee for the Alliance for Effective Social Investing. She is also a faculty member in the master program at Georgetown for Sports Industry Management program. Ellie received her MBA from University of Maryland, College Park and her undergraduate degree in English from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. She was born in Spain and has lived and worked in Europe, Asia and Central America.

Photo of Tom DePaso Tom DePaso currently serves as Associate General Counsel for the NFL Players Association (NFLPA). Duties include filing grievances under the NFL-NFLPA CBA, mediating player/agent grievances pursuant to the NFLPA Regulations Governing Contract Advisors, and prosecuting disciplinary cases under those Regulations. He acts as attorney to the Professional Athletes Foundation (charitable organization which provides funds to needy former players) and provides legal services for the NFL Coaches Association. DePaso is also a member of the salary cap committee which sets the NFL's salary cap under the CBA each season. Previously, DePaso performed similar responsibilities for players in the United States Football League Players Association and Arena Football League Players Association.

Sports and Entertainment Commission with the primary responsibility of leading the District of Columbia's efforts to bring Major League Baseball back to the Nation's Capital, a project that was successfully completed with the announcement in September 2004 of the relocation of the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals.

Photo of Stephen  Goodman Stephen Goodman moved into the position of assistant vice president for corporate partnerships in July 2007 after serving as senior corporate partnerships manager for the three years prior. In this capacity, Goodman works directly with NFL sponsors on initiatives that involve NFL players and manages the execution of sponsorships for NFL PLAYERS programs, including servicing and activation. He also manages sponsorship relationships and works to develop promotional programs and marketing campaigns to support sponsor and licensee objectives. He also manages and sells inventory for all of NFL PLAYERS properties including television, events and multimedia. Goodman joined NFL PLAYERS in 2000 as a corporate marketing manager and was previously an account executive at Big League Broadcasting for Sports Talk 790/The Zone in Atlanta. Goodman has a B.A. in Communications from East Carolina University. Goodman and his wife Michelle have two boys ages 3 and 5.

He received his B.S. in Sports Organization from Miami University (OH) and his M.B.A. from The George Washington University.  Tim is a former collegiate athlete and native Washingtonian.

His duties in that role include serving as team spokesman and liaison to the local and national media and the NBA while overseeing the overall communications strategy for the organization and the general dissemination of information regarding the team. Hall's department is responsible for producing the team's annual regular season and postseason media guides, writing news releases, compiling game notes, scheduling and facilitating player and staff interview requests and maintaining statistical upkeep and biographical information.

She began her career at Under Armour during her senior spring semester at Maryland (Feb 2001). It was the culture, people, values and drive that made Tori stay on as an intern for an entire year and a half, while she finished up her undergrad.

He has led the team's re-location from Baltimore to Washington DC and negotiated a 3 year agreement to play home games at Navy-Marine Corps in Annapolis, MD. Mr. Harvey serves on the boards of the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, the Tewaaraton Award Foundation, Winners Lacrosse and US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter. He belongs to the Potomac Officers Club and is a member of the University Club of Washington DC, where he is Chair of the Squash Committee.

William Kraus
Bill Kraus has spent his entire rewarding career in the business of Sports.  He worked in Specialty retail during the hey-day of Licensed products from 1983-1993.  He then jumped to the supplier side of the business in 1994 with Champion Products.Kraus held various sales and marketing positions with Champion up until 2001 when life presented him with the opportunity to be the first executive from the industry brought in to help grow the Under Armour Brand.  Over the course of the next seven years as the company grew its revenues from $20 million to in excess of $800 million, Kraus oversaw the following functional areas- Product Merchandising, Brand Marketing, Sports Marketing, Business Development, Licensing and Team Sales.  Bill resigned from Under Armour in March 2009.

He primarily focuses on growing the team’s marketing database, sales analytics and fan profiling. Prior to joining the Nationals, he spent a year working in database marketing at Sirius XM Satellite Radio.  Prior to that position, he worked in the NBA’s Team Marketing & Business Operations group in New York for three years, where he consulted with all NBA, WNBA & D League teams on ticket pricing and ticket sales analytics. Scott is also in his fourth year as an Adjunct Professor in Georgetown’s Sports Management program where he teaches a course on digital media and consumer engagement. Last Fall, he served as an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University where he taught Sports Marketing.

Prior to coming to the Washington Nationals, she was Director of Events at the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, a local nonprofit that attracts and implements sporting events in the area and raises funds to support local youth sports initiatives. As Director of Events, she planned and executed all of the Sports Alliance's corporate events and charity fundraisers. Some of the events included Sneakerball Gala and Auction, Fore our Youth charity golf tournament, National Marathon Health and Fitness expo, and several other smaller corporate and charity events.

Prior joining the Washington Nationals, Amy was an associate in the Philadelphia office of Reed Smith, LLP, where she practiced in the Commercial Litigation Group. She began her career in the sports industry in law school, when she spent two years working as the law clerk to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Amy received her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a Masters of Public & International Affairs degree from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Photo of George Perry George Perry is the Sr. Director, Global Strategic Partnership Marketing for Rosetta Stone. Previously, George was the head of Rosetta Stone’s U.S. retail sales and marketing group, but was recently asked to create a global partnership marketing department. He is tasked with developing Rosetta Stone’s worldwide partnership marketing strategy to increase awareness internationally, while generating qualified leads and driving sales. In addition to developing strategic corporate alliances, George will identify, evaluate and create mutually beneficial partnerships in the sports and entertainment industries.   George is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University and teaches Sales, Capstone, and Leadership and Management courses for the Sports Industry Management Masters degree program.   George has a broad and varied sports and entertainment sales and marketing background across many different industries. He has led the integrated marketing efforts for several great brands such as the Washington Freedom, Washington Redskins, XM Satellite Radio, Visa International and Starter Sports Apparel. He has managed multiple strategic marketing partnerships and high profile athlete endorsements with almost every major sport including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, IndyCar, MLS, NCAA, USOC and several National Governing Bodies.   Prior to embarking on his sports career, George was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. As a Surface Warfare Officer for six years, George held a number of management positions, including a two-year tour as an exchange officer aboard a French Navy ship.   George is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He also earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Masters degree in International Studies from the Lauder Institute of Management at the University of Pennsylvania. As Washington's Vice President of Basketball Administration, Sheppard assists with the day-to-day operations of a basketball department that brought three All-Stars in Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, and Caron Butler to Washington, and added veteran experience to the Wizards' core with Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Fabricio Oberto and DeShawn Stevenson. After Washington's streak of four consecutive appearances in the NBA Playoffs was snapped last season, Sheppard played a pivotal role in bringing head coach Flip Saunders to the nation's capital, giving the Wizards a perfect match between their veteran players and experienced coaching staff.
