Sports Industry Management Program Attains Candidacy Status in COSMA Accreditation Process

The Georgetown University Master's in Sports Industry Management (SIM) is on track to attain national accreditation in 2018.

On January 10, 2017, the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA) granted the SIM program Candidacy Status—the first step in the accreditation process. The subsequent steps include the submission of a self-study in January 2018 and a campus visit by a COSMA review team in July 2018.

SIM faculty director Daniel Kelly, Ph.D., associate professor of the practice, has overseen program assessment and strategic changes in the curriculum since the summer of 2016.

According to Dr. Kelly, COSMA accreditation will serve as a “seal of approval” in validating the program’s breadth and depth of quality to prospective students, as well as the current students and program alumni.

Additionally, Dr. Kelly believes “alumni can rest assured that the Georgetown Sports Industry Management program is continuing to improve and make progress towards building and sustaining a positive brand in the professional marketplace.”
