If I am denied admission to your program, can I reapply for a later term?

The policy for reapplying to our Master's programs requires that at least one year has passed since first applying. At the time of reapplication, you are required to submit an updated personal statement, resume, and recommendations. We hope that the letters of recommendation come from individuals who can speak towards things you have done in the year between applying to improve your application.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

How is this Program different from other sports management/business degree programs?

There are a plethora of sports management degrees in the academic marketplace and outstanding research being done by the North American Society for Sport Management (NAASM). This program focuses more on preparing students for placement in the front office of sports organizations with emphasis on industry and position track skills and knowledge. Our mentoring placement service, organizational partners and advisory help support these initiatives.

Do I have to take the required courses in a particular sequence?

We recommend taking the courses in our suggested sequence but we do permit some deviation with some of the higher-level courses.

If I work or intern full-time, can I make the Program fit into my schedule?

Yes- our program was designed to support full-time internships or work. All of the classes meet in the evenings between 5:30pm and 9:40pm.

Can I take a full course load if I have am currently holding a full-time job?

Sports Industry Management students who hold full-time jobs are limited to enrolling in two classes per semester.  If you are working full-time and you want to take a course load in excess of six semester hours, you need permission from the Dean of the Sports Industry Management Program.

Members of the faculty recommend a course load of no more than 2 courses at a time for students with full-time jobs. For every hour spent in a SIM class, plan on spending three hours on studying and doing homework outside of class.  Keep this in mind when trying to plan course schedules around work.  A full-time job and a full-time course load cannot be done at 100% professionally or academically - one or both will suffer.  Since maintaining a 3.00 is one of the requirements for good standing, taking on too much could lead to academic consequences like probation.

How do the specialization tracks in the curriculum work?

Our two specialized tracks are Strategic Marketing, Communications and New Media; and Business, Management and Operations. They differ in electives offered, content focus, and mentor placements

If I am really interested in a class in the other track, can I take it?

Yes. The way the program is designed allows students to take one elective course in addition to their core and selected track courses. While we will be offering special topic elective courses, students may also take one course in the opposite track of which they are enrolled in as an elective.
