Dr. Anthony Clark Arend, Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University, is proud to return as the Director for the 2009 International Relations Program. For over twenty years, Dr. Arend has brought his energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge to this exciting and intellectually stimulating summer program.
In addition to his dedicated role as Director of the International Relations Summer Program, Dr. Arend also serves as Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown and is an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to coming to Georgetown, he was a Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. |
Dr. Arend earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia. He received a B.S.F.S., magna cum laude, from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Dr. Arend's teaching and research interests are focused in the areas of international law, international organization, international relations, international legal philosophy, and constitutional law of United States foreign relations.His publications include six books, among them: Legal Rules and International Society, Pursuing a Just and Durable Peace: John Foster Dulles and International Organization, and International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the UN Charter Paradigm (co-authored). Dr. Arend is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
