Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies

Summer School

For Accepted Students

Congratulations on being accepted into the Georgetown Summer School!

Now that you have been accepted, you may have many questions about what to expect and how to plan your time here at Georgetown.  Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding housing on and off campus, dining on campus, paying your student bill, transportation, and university technology.  For answers to other frequently asked questions, also see FAQs.

Housing

Summer School Students participating in FIRST session and SECOND session have a variety of options for housing while in Washington, DC.  You have the option of staying on campus in a residential dormitory.  If you would like to live off-campus, the Off-Campus Housing Office can provide you with important information in your search for rentals.  PRE session housing is only available off-campus.

Dining

Summer School students may purchase meal plans and eat in the on-campus dining hall.  Dining Services offers several meal plan options to fit every student's budget and needs.

Parking

Georgetown does not offer on-campus parking to its Summer School students. However, there is very limited parking available in nearby satellite parking lots.  Any requests for parking in these lots must be made directly with the Office of Transportation Management.

Transportation

If you do not have a car, there are several options for getting to and from campus. The most commonly used form of transportation is the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (the GUTS bus). These buses regularly drive to and from various Metrorail stations and other locations in the area, connecting you to the main campus at Georgetown.

You may also consider using the Washington, DC, Metrorail or Metrobus service to get to and from campus.

University Technology

Most students prefer to bring a laptop computer with them to Summer School; however, it is not required.  If you do bring a personal laptop, please be sure to check with University Information Services for detailed information and instructions on how to access the Georgetown network from your residence hall and other locations on campus.

University and Campus Safety

The safety and security of all members of the University community are preconditions of the learning, dialogue, and personal growth at Georgetown.  We work comprehensively to promote public safety on our campuses, in all University facilities, at our events, and in international exchange programs.

Georgetown's Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducts coordinated patrols on a regular basis to ensure campus security.  DPS is vested through the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department with full arrest power on all campus property.  DPS also works closely with the Metropolitan Police Department and District of Columbia Fire Department to address issues surrounding campus and respond quickly to incidents that may arise.

For students staying off-campus, DPS also operates free escort services, known as Safe Rides, for Georgetown students on campus and between campus and nearby housing.  Students can call 202-784-RIDE to request an escort.  In addition to individual rides, the shuttle is available for students to use in neighborhood areas surrounding campus.

All accepted students are highly encouraged to sign up for HoyaAlert, the campus emergency notification system. Students can sign up via MyAccess for email, phone, or text message alerts. In the event of an emergency or campus closure, HoyaAlert will notify registered students of the emergency, the campus status and any further instructions, if necessary.
