Transfer of Credit:

The School of Continuing Studies (SCS) at Georgetown University only offers transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Credit for work done at another college or university is granted to each admitted transfer student on an individual basis through an extensive evaluation by the academic department in which the student is admitted.

At the discretion of the academic leadership in SCS, credit is granted for prior college work after successful completion of the first semester at SCS. The following guidelines are used to inform the decision about which courses will be accepted for transfer into academic programs in SCS:

1. The accreditation of the institution. Only courses from regionally accredited institutions will be considered.
2. The grade in the course. Only courses that have an earned grade of C (2.0) or better will be considered.
3. The content of the course. Only courses that have content applicable to offerings in the SCS program will be considered.
4. Age of the course. In most cases, courses older than 10 years old will not be considered.

The total amount of credits that can transfer into an SCS program or degree is determined by the Assistant Dean. In general, however, students may not transfer more than 64 credits toward an undergraduate degree.

In order for credits to be considered for transfer into an SCS program, a final, official transcript from each institution previously attended must be received. Transcripts that are stamped “student copy” or unofficial copy” are not acceptable, even if they are in sealed envelopes.

We also have a transfer program which will make it easier for students at Prince George's Community College to select courses there that eventually will help them earn a BALS degree at Georgetown. The document, called an articulation agreement, specifies which PGCC courses the BALS program will accept for transfer credit and what degree requirements they can be applied against. The agreement does not widen the courses that can transfer, but rather provides a ready reference for PGCC students and their advisors so they can plan a course of study that will seamlessly transfer into the BALS program. Once accepted, transfer credits are posted on the student’s Georgetown record and contribute to the required number of credits necessary for degree completion. Transfer credit grades, however, will not appear on the student’s Georgetown transcript and are not considered when calculating the quality point GPA index.
