Xenia Boone
Ms. Boone serves as the Direct Marketing Association’s (DMA) in-house counsel for a range of legal issues and leads the organization’s efforts in compliance and best practices application for direct marketing and fundraising. She oversees Board-level Committees on DMA’s Ethical Guidelines and the policing of members’ compliance with the guidelines and standards. She is leading educational efforts on topics of interest in corporate and social responsibility and works with both consumers and members on marketing and privacy compliance issues to enhance trust in the marketing process. Additionally, since 2002, Boone leads the DMA’s Nonprofit Federation (DMANF) of nearly 400 nonprofit organizations and fundraisers before Congress, the media, state, and federal regulatory bodies. Ms. Boone serves as staff liaison for the Nonprofit Federation Advisory Council, focusing on fundraising practices and policy for the benefit of the nonprofit sector. She produces annotated Guidelines for Ethical Nonprofit Communications and established a senior-level Leadership Summit for the organization. (Boone was named as a Top Woman in Fundraising by Fundraising Success Magazine in 2006.) Prior to DMA, Ms. Boone served as legislative counsel, then as director of government affairs and general counsel at the National Newspaper Association (NNA), focusing on postal rates, First Amendment protection, intellectual property, lobbying, and grassroots management for the organization, including leading its Congressional Action Committee. Before NNA, she served as the Assistant Director of the Washington Office of the Ukrainian National Association, an international organization focusing on coalition building and obtaining Congressional approval for foreign appropriations, writing for publications, and overseeing grassroots lobbying strategies. Senny Boone holds a J.D. from Catholic University, Columbus School of Law, Washington, DC, and was awarded a certificate from the Communications Law Institute at Catholic University for specialized program in communications law. Ms. Boone has a B.A. Journalism, Cum Laude, from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. She is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia.
