Center for Continuing and Professional Education

Payment & Funding Resources

The Center for Continuing and Professional Education encourages students to explore all options for funding. We have provided a list of funding resources to assist current and prospective students.  Please note that the School of Continuing Studies generally does not provide funding in the form of scholarships, grants, and needs-based aid for non-credit professional certificate programs and courses. In addition, non-credit professional certificate programs and courses are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Potential Funding Sources for Individuals

Employer Education Budgets

Some employers offer funding for employee education or professional development.  If an employer guarantees payment for employee education and training, CCPE and ITL will accept an Intent to Pay form or the equivalent. This is typically a form completed and signed by an employer indicating how much the employer is willing to fund and the address to which the invoice for courses should be mailed. Students who have third party sponsorship or training authorizations will be required to submit approval forms with their registration.

If your employer will pay tuition, register for courses online. Select Third Party Billing the method of payment. Please submit an Intent to Pay form indicating that an employer or other third party should be billed for tuition.  No invoice will be generated without an Intent to Pay form on file.

Please note that courses at CCPE and ITL are non-credit. If your employer's education budget cannot be used for non-credit courses, be sure to ask about a training budget.

Employer Training Budgets

Some organizations include professional development courses in employee training budgets. Be sure to ask your employer about both an education budget and a training budget.

This is typically a form completed and signed by an employer indicating how much the employer is willing to fund and the address to which the invoice for courses should be mailed. Federal Agency Training Funds

Federal employees should ask the appropriate budget officer about training budgets available. According to the Federal Employees Almanac 2014 federal agencies may:

  • pay training and education expenses from appropriated funds or other available funds for training needed to support program functions;
  • reimburse employees for all or part of the costs of training or education;
  • share training and education costs with employees;
  • pay travel expenses for employees assigned to training;
  • adjust an employee's normal work schedule for educational purposes not related to official duties;

Please note that Georgetown CCPE accepts Standard Form-182 (SF-182) for training authorizations from the federal government.

Private Education Loans

Some students choose to finance a certificate program with private education loans. A list of lenders that have offered private education loans in the past to Georgetown University students is available here. Students are responsible for contacting lenders directly to inquire if a non-credit professional certificate program is eligible for a loan. While Georgetown University CCPE will not recommend specific lenders, it will certify loans for eligible programs from approved lenders. See below for loan amounts that Georgetown University CCPE will certify.

Georgetown University CCPE has a unique campus code for Sallie Mae. Our branch code is 001445-99.

How to Apply

Students must be approved for a loan before registering for courses. Follow these steps:

  1. Check the list of lenders that have offered private education loans in the past to Georgetown University students.
  2. Contact the lender and confirm your program is eligible for a private education loan. Obtain the necessary paperwork to apply.
  3. Apply for the loan. CCPE will certify loan amounts based on the information below under Loan Amounts. Please note that our branch code is 001445-99.
  4. If approved, register for courses using your loan:
    • If the lender sends funds directly to Georgetown University, select Third Party Payment at time of registration. Enter the information about the lender and then contact CCPE Student Accounts at CCPEStudentAccounts@georgetown.edu.
    • If the lender sends funds directly to the student and the student will pay CCPE, the student must pay by credit card at time of registration.

Note: It is the student's responsibility to contact Georgetown University CCPE Student Accounts at CCPEStudentAccounts@georgetown.edu to ensure that loans are processed.

Other Considerations

Interest-free Payment Plans

CCPE offers interest-free payment plans for certificate programs and course registrations. With the interest-free payment plan, the tuition payment is typically divided into four monthly payments with the first payment (down payment) due at the time of registration. To be eligible for our interest-free payment plan, students must register for a minimum dollar value of courses based on the following table:

Program $ Amount Minimum
Paralegal Studies Program Minimum of $2,800.00
Certificate Programs (ex-Paralegal) Minimum of $4,000.00

To enroll in our interest-free payment plan, select Payment Plan as your payment method during registration.  You will be prompted to enter your credit card information to make the first payment.  Please note that the total tuition cost must equal or exceed the minimum amounts listed above to enroll in a payment plan.

Registering for Courses Over Multiple Semesters

Students are generally not required to register and pay for (or complete) all courses in a program in one semester. While many students choose to complete their certificate program in one semester, many programs (but not all) allow students up to two years to complete all requirements to receive the certificate. As a result, students may choose to register for required and elective courses over several semesters to spread the cost of tuition over time. Since CCPE generally offers every course in a program each semester, students have many opportunities to enroll in required and elective courses within the two-year required timeframe.
