SEME 2009: POST-GAME WRAP-UP

The sixth annual Sports Events Marketing Experience (SEME) hosted a sold-out crowd at Nationals Park

The sixth annual Sports Events Marketing Experience (SEME) took place March 27–28 at Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals. SEME 2009 hosted a sold-out crowd for the second consecutive year; 400 people representing 22 states, as well as a SEME record of 91 speakers from 55 organizations were in attendance, making SEME 2009 the biggest and best yet.

As the premier national sports and networking conference, SEME offers attendees a unique opportunity to gain the insight, strategy, and contacts necessary to break into the ultracompetitive sports industry. This two-day event allows career seekers and advanced students to interact with global leaders in the sports and events fields, participate in one-on-one interviews, and explore internship and career opportunities.

SEME 2009 featured experts and top decision makers from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, NCAA, NASCAR, College Sports, Action Sports, Minor Leagues, the Olympics, and other public and private organizations. Key features of the event included the networking reception, the career workshop, and the job/internship fair, all of which provide answers to the ultimate career and job question: “What Makes Me Marketable?”

Matt Winkler, associate dean of the Master of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management Program, is founder and executive director of SEME, which he launched in Washington DC in 2004. “We are at critical juncture in the sports industry today and we feel the role of SEME has never been more valuable for new professionals looking to break into the sports industry,” says Winkler. “SEME has been fortunate over the past six years to have such an inspiring commitment from our hundreds of executives and sports industry professionals from all over the country who take time to serve as speakers and panelists each year.”
