SAT Prep Improve your SAT scores through comprehensive test preparation classes that provide you with individualized score reports, a personalized academic plan, and detailed examination essay critiques. You will also take home tools to help you continue your test preparation efforts.
English and Math Effective writing is one of the most essential skills for success in school and any career you choose to pursue. Georgetown instructors work closely with you to advance your writing capabilities and help you refine your style and technique. By summer’s end, you will have a compelling personal essay to use for your college applications. Georgetown’s math instructors similarly provide focused attention to significantly advance your algebra and pre-calculus competence and prepare you for the challenges of college-level math.

LaFarge Lecture Series In the LaFarge Lecture Series, designed exclusively for Summer Hoyas in the College Preparatory program, students have the unique opportunity to attend engaging and enlightening undergraduate seminars conducted by some of Georgetown University’s most pre-eminent faculty and scholars. Named after John LaFarge, a 20th century Jesuit priest and devoted advocate of racial parity and human rights, this lecture series seeks to increase students’ awareness of contemporary moral issues and heighten their cultural appreciation for art and literature. From Shakespeare to International Relations, students will expand their world view and learn about a wide range of academic topics and current affairs straight from the experts. Stressing personal inquiry, self-respect, and social justice, our speakers will not only incite a love of knowledge and intellectual discovery but will also promote the values of honesty, integrity, and compassion. Guest lecturers will explore how these values influenced writers and artists from centuries ago and how these traits continue to shape our global perspective in today's world. This exciting lecture series provides Summer Hoyas with the chance to develop effective note-taking abilities, improve listening skills, and deepen their academic understanding. Dr. Anthony Clark Arend
Anthony Arend will present a lecture to this year’s College Preparatory students on the topic of International Relations.
Dr. Anthony Clark Arend serves as Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University. In addition to this role, Dr. Arend also serves as Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program at Georgetown and is an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to coming to Georgetown, he was a Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. Finally, Dr. Arend is the Director of the International Relations summer program for high school students.
Dr. Arend earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Foreign Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia. He received a B.S.F.S., magna cum laude, from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
Dr. Arend's teaching and research interests are focused in the areas of international law, international organization, international relations, international legal philosophy, and constitutional law of United States foreign relations. His publications include six books, among them: Legal Rules and International Society, Pursuing a Just and Durable Peace: John Foster Dulles and International Organization, and International Law and the Use of Force: Beyond the UN Charter Paradigm (co-authored). Dr. Arend is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Michael Collins This summer, Michael Collins will deliver a lecture to the College Preparatory students entitled, Performing Shakespeare's Tragedies: King Lear and Hamlet. The lecture is scheduled for July 2nd.
Michael J. Collins is Professor in English and Dean Emeritus at Georgetown University. At Georgetown he teaches undergraduate students in Georgetown College and graduate students in the Liberal Studies Program and serves as Director of the Villa Le Balze, the University’s Study Center in Fiesole, Italy. He has also contributed as a guest lecturer to the programs for teachers at Shakespeare’s Globe in London and at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. He is a fellow of PhiBeta Kappa, of the Society for Values in Higher Education, of the Royal Society of Arts (UK), and of Glyndwr University in Wales. He is a recipient of Georgetown University’s Vicennial Medal, its Bunn Award for Excellence in Teaching, and its President’s Medal, the highest honor the University awards.
Professor Collins has edited a collection of essays on Shakespeare’s early comedies, contributed chapters to numerous books on teaching, and written articles for a variety of books, bulletins, quarterlies, and other scholarly publications. He also writes on modern Anglo-Welsh poetry and on current educational issues. His most recent publications in these areas have appeared in Poetry Wales and Reflections onHigher Education.
