Program Description:
The Certificate in Litigation Technology and Legal Project Management educates students and legal professionals in the knowledge and skills necessary to enter or expand further into the Litigation Support field.
This Certificate requires a completion of three courses: Advanced Litigation and Trial Technology, eDiscovery (includes test prep and test for ACEDS, and one year membership to association) and Legal Project Management (includes 35 hours of project management education required to apply for a PMP certification).
Objectives:
Program participants will:
- gain hands-on experience with tools such as Forensic Toolkit, Concordance, CaseMap, TrialDirector and Sanction
- learn how tools create a more efficient and effective litigation workflow
- learn key e-discovery concepts that litigation support professionals will apply in most of the matters that they support
- learn how to spot critical e-discovery issues and how to best resolve them
- learn Project Management Fundamentals, and Project Management Planning and Controls
- apply concepts to legal scenarios via case studies in Collection Plans, Production Plans, Trial Preparation Plans, and eDiscovery Program "plans“
Program Requirements:
- Successful completion of the 3 required courses. Courses meet on weeknights – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and Saturdays for 5 weeks. Refer to individual course pages for schedules.
- Students must complete the program within a two-year time period, but are strongly encouraged to complete within 1-2 semesters.
Program Prerequisites:
- A bachelor's degree or the equivalent.
- One to two years of legal experience and/or Georgetown Paralegal alumni.
- A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
- Students must have a basic understanding of legal/litigation concepts and practices. If the legal environment is new to you, you may want to consider applying for the Paralegal Studies Program and taking these courses as part of the Georgetown Paralegal Litigation Technology and Legal Project Management track.
- Any requests for exceptions to these requirements must be made in writing to the program director at CCPE.
