Econometrics

Georgetown University's Department of Economics, under the direction of the Georgetown Center for Economic Research (GCER) and in collaboration with the Center for Continuing & Professional Education, offers an Econometrics intensive seminar program, with an option of earning a non-credit professional Certificate in Econometrics.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Taught by internationally renowned economists, Georgetown CCPE's econometrics seminars are designed to be of practical and immediate use to individuals across the private and public sectors who seek tools to solve complex problems and inform both policy and practice. Each seminar includes applied experience in estimation, interpretation, and evaluation of economic relationships.

In particular, these seminars are designed for:

  • Economists
  • Statisticians
  • Market researchers
  • Management consultants
  • Social scientists
  • Business analysts

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of the program is to teach participants how to bridge the gap between econometric theory and application. Each seminar emphasizes understanding issues in their context, choosing the most appropriate analytic method, and implementing evaluation methods. All seminars combine discussion of theory with hands-on application of learning concepts via in-class labs using real data and appropriate statistical software packages. The seminars are geared toward both scholars and practitioners needing to enhance their applied knowledge. Program participants may elect to take individual intensive seminars, or to take three seminars in order to earn the Certificate in Econometrics.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
Program participants should register for each seminar separately. Successful completion of any three seminars, for a total of 42 contact hours (4.2 CEUs), is required to receive the Certificate in Econometrics. All three seminars must be completed within a maximum two-year time frame.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES
Program participants should have basic knowledge of statistics and economics at the undergraduate (college) level.  Advanced knowledge of statistics and economics is not necessary or assumed. Knowledge of statistical software programs, particularly Stata (see http://stata.com/), are helpful. Program participants must also bring a notebook / laptop computer with relevant statistical software programs.

For additional information and seminar registration, click on individual seminar descriptions below. The seminars are open enrollment, so no application is required.
