Digital Marketing


Ideal for Professionals who are currently working in an advertising, marketing, public relations or social media role. Startup entrepreneurs and independent consultants can also benefit greatly from attending this certificate program.
Program Format Courses typically meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays at our downtown Washington, D.C. campus. Occasionally, courses may meet on weekdays during the day or evening. The capstone course is held online.
Program Length Six courses over one semester. Students are not required to enroll continuously and have up to two years to complete the program.
Program Cost Tuition is $895.00 per course. Total program tuition including all six courses is $5,370.00. Most course materials are included.

Start Date Digital Marketing courses are open enrollment and offered throughout the year, though some courses may be available in the spring or fall semester only. Students are encouraged to complete the courses in sequence. Please see course schedule below for the next start date.

Program Overview

Digital marketing is a rapidly changing landscape, with constant innovation and ever-changing technology. Tactics or campaigns that were successful two years ago, may no longer be relevant for today’s targeted customer. New media marketing, including social, mobile, and search, is revolutionizing how marketers operate and the skills they need to be successful.

The Certificate in Digital Marketing program is designed to introduce students to the world of multi-channel marketing. This program provides students with the advanced technical skills and marketing savvy they need to identify, engage, and develop successful relationships with customers in today’s digital environment.

Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Explain core concepts of multi-channel marketing and digital marketing strategies 
  • Design a Customer Relationship Management and Information-Based Marketing strategy
  • Demonstrate ability to work with current digital marketing tools, both quantitative and qualitative 
  • Present the return on investment of digital marketing efforts in a justifiable format
  • Construct a digital marketing strategy to achieve organizational goals

Certificate Requirements

To receive the Certificate in Digital Marketing from Georgetown University, students must successfully complete four (4) required courses and two (2) elective courses for a total of 10.80 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 108.0 contact hours. All six courses must be completed within a two-year period.

Please note: As of May 15, 2016 the Digital Marketing curriculum has been updated in recognition of emerging industry patterns and student feedback. Students who began coursework before May 15, 2016 may be grandfathered under the old certificate requirements.

Program Prerequisites

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience in a position in the public, private, or non-profit sector.
  • Participants should have fundamental marketing skills. Those with limited skills or experience may benefit from courses in our Marketing or Social Media Management certificate programs, which may be taken prior to enrolling in this program.

International Students

Georgetown University cannot sponsor student visas for non-credit professional certificate programs, however, international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses. A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
