Education Policy and Program Evaluation


Ideal for Those currently working or who plan to work in education policy or program management, including professionals in government agencies, non-profits, corporations, and philanthropic organizations.
Program Format Courses typically meet on Saturdays at our downtown Washington, D.C. campus. During the summer courses meet on weekdays during the day.
Program Length Three courses over one semester. Classes typically meet over three months during the spring and fall semesters. The summer intensive is completed over three weeks. Students are not required to enroll continuously and have up to two years to complete the program.
Program Cost Tuition is $795.00 to $895.00 per course. Total program tuition for all three courses is $2,485.00. Most course materials are included.

Start Date Education Policy & Program Evaluation courses are open enrollment and offered throughout the year. Students are encouraged to complete the courses in sequence. Please see course schedule below for the next start date.

Program Overview

Taught by academics and advanced practitioners, the Certificate in Education Policy and Program Evaluation is designed to help education professionals in the early education, K-12, or higher education policy areas develop expertise in the theory and practice of program evaluation. The program provides participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of program evaluation theory, methods, and skills. Through this three-course certificate program, participants will use case studies, exercises and projects to experience the evaluation planning process, gain statistical fluency, explore multiple research methods, and design and present their own policy or program evaluation.

Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand evaluation theory and techniques
  • Identify components and design structure of an evaluation tool
  • Apply quantitative, qualitative or mixed method strategies and theoretical concepts to research methodology in program evaluations
  • Design a program or policy evaluation outline
  • Use evaluation findings to influence future policies and programs

Certificate Requirements

To receive the Certificate in Education Policy & Program Evaluation from Georgetown University, participants must successfully complete three (3) required courses for a total 4.90 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 49.0 contact hours. All three courses must be completed within a two-year period.

Program Prerequisites

Program participants must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent.

International Students

Georgetown University cannot sponsor student visas for non-credit professional certificate programs, however, international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses. A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
