Master of Professional Studies Journalism Degree - Advocacy Immersion Journalism

With its deep Jesuit roots and longstanding commitment to social justice, Georgetown University's credentials to teach advocacy and immersion journalism are unmatched. This genre starts with solid reporting but allows a distinct point of view to emerge, stretching and occasionally breaking the standard concept of objectivity. Journalists following this path seek out issues that merit illumination and often pique societal conscience, such as inequities of race, poverty, and class. While immersing themselves in their story, they sometimes cross the line from observer to participant. Advocacy/immersion journalism students dig deep into investigative journalism, documentary research, statistical analysis, and narrative storytelling while studying the works and techniques of current practitioners.
