Boston College of Theology and Ministry

Daniel J. Harrington, S.J. is Professor of New Testament at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry and is the editor of New Testament Abstracts. He teaches courses in both the Old and the New Testaments. His research focuses on biblical interpretation in antiquity, modern biblical interpretation, and the relation between exegesis and preaching. Fr. Harrington is the author of more than 35 books and numerous articles and reviews. His latest books are Meeting Paul Today: Understanding the Man, His Mission, and His Message (2008); Jesus: A Historical Portrait (2007); and What Are We Hoping For: New Testament Images (2006). He also authored The Gospel of Mark in the Sacra Pagina series (2002) with John R. Donahue, S.J. Fr. Harrington previously lectured in the Institute on Sacred Scripture in 1976, 1980, 1986, and 1999.

John R. Donahue, S.J. is presently Research Professor in Theology at Loyola College in Maryland. Fr. Donahue is past president of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, and has served on national and international ecumenical dialogues. He was longtime Professor of New Testament at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA, and was the first Raymond E. Brown Distinguished Professor of New Testament Studies at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. His book Hearing the Word: Reflections on the B Cycle of Sunday Readings (2002) won a first place Catholic Press Association Book Award in Professional Books. His latest book, written in 2002 with Daniel J. Harrington, S.J., is The Gospel of Mark in the Sacra Pagina series. He has authored more than 100 articles and reviews. From 1998 to 2001, he wrote the weekly Word column for America magazine. Fr. Donahue directed the Institute on Sacred Scripture from 1989-2000, and has lectured widely at scripture workshops in the U.S., Canada, South Africa, and at the East Asian Pastoral Institute in Manila. He also recently led workshops on biblical topics in Austin, TX; Raleigh, NC; and Los Angeles.

Georgetown University

Alan C. Mitchell has been the Director of the Summer Institute on Sacred Scripture since 2000, and is Associate Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Georgetown University. He is the author of Hebrews in the Sacra Pagina series (Liturgical Press, 2007), which won a second place 2008 Catholic Press Association Book Award in Scripture. He has published articles on various New Testament topics and books, such as 1 Corinthians, Luke, Acts of the Apostles, and Hebrews in New Testament Studies, The Journal of Biblical Literature, Biblica, and The Catholic Biblical Quarterly. He is the editor for books on Hebrews in the Religious Studies Review. Two of his special interests are the social world of the New Testament and the influence of popular Hellenistic moral philosophy on early Christianity, on which he has published extensively on the topic of Greco-Roman friendship and the New Testament.
