The Certificate in Marketing program is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed as marketing professionals. Developed in collaboration with the American Marketing Association - DC and taught by experienced practitioners and academics, the certificate addresses marketing and communication issues in today's evolving and highly competitive business environment. Covering both theory and practice, the core courses emphasize the fundamentals of planning, research, and integration while the electives offer insight into a range of relevant topics applicable to today's rapidly changing marketing landscape.

The Certificate in Marketing is ideal for professionals in entry- or mid-level marketing positions seeking a deeper understanding of marketing. Individual courses, and especially the electives, will benefit those in more senior positions seeking to reinforce their expertise in specific areas. In addition, the Certificate in Marketing can assist professionals in becoming a Professional Certified Marketer (TM) , an American Marketing Association program. Students may also be interested in pursuing the Professional Researcher Certification offered by the Marketing Research Association.
Career & Industry Outlook
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, demand for marketing managers will grow by 14% through 2020 (about as fast as average) while demand for market research analysts will increase 41% through 2020 (much faster than average).
To receive the Certificate in Marketing from Georgetown University, students must successfully complete the four (4) required courses and two (2) electives for a total of 10.80 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 108.0 contact hours. Students must complete the requirements within a two-year period.
This certificate is an open enrollment program. No application is required and registration is available by clicking the course links below. Current students must register with their Georgetown NetID and password. New students must first create an account and password through the Student Portalprior to registration. After your account is created, you will receive a Georgetown NetID via email. When you have your Georgetown NetID and password, continue registration by clicking "Add to Cart" on the course registration page, logging in, and following the steps to complete checkout. Course registration is complete when payment is processed and you receive a confirmation email.
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- No prior knowledge of marketing is expected. However, students with no experience or formal academic training in marketing are required to take Principles of Marketing as the first course.
- All courses are taught in English. Students must be comfortable reading, writing, speaking and listening in English, the language of instruction.
Tuition for each course is $895.00. The total cost of the certificate program (six courses) is $5,370.00. Participants pay per course and payment is due at the time of registration. Withdrawals and refunds are processed based on the Withdrawal and Refund policy.
Members of the American Marketing Association are eligible for a 10% tuition discount on each course. To receive the discount email your NetID and AMA membership number to email@example.com verification. New students will need to first create an account in My SCS. Your account will be registered as eligible and you may select the AMA discount during the checkout process.
Tuition discounts are only applicable at the time of registration, are not applied retroactively, and cannot be combined.
This program also qualifies for Veterans Affairs Benefits for eligible students.
Tuition Payment Considerations
While non-credit professional certificate programs do not qualify for federal financial aid, prospective students should consider the following for tuition payment:
- Seek employer funding or reimbursement
- Enroll in our interest-free payment plan
- Use Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits/ GI Bill
- Apply for a private education loan
- Register for individual courses over multiple semesters
Program Format & Schedule
Courses meet Friday evenings and Saturdays. Occasionally, courses may meet on weekdays during the day or evening. Generally, all courses are offered each semester, though some courses may be available in the spring or fall semester only. Refer to individual course pages below for schedules.
Most course materials are included in the cost of tuition. Course materials will be distributed in digital format and accessible through Blackboard, Georgetown's learning management system. Students must have a laptop or tablet computer to access course materials.
Non-credit professional certificate programs are classified as part-time education programs. As a result, Georgetown University cannot sponsor international students for student visas (F-1) to enroll in certificate programs. However, prospective international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses.
