Ideal for Professionals in entry- or mid-level marketing positions seeking a deeper understanding of marketing, or those in more senior positions seeking to reinforce their expertise in specific areas.
Program Format Courses typically meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays at our downtown Washington, D.C. campus. Occasionally, courses may meet on weekdays during the day or evening.
Program Length Six courses over one semester. Students are not required to enroll continuously and have up to two years to complete the program.
Program Cost Tuition is $895.00 per course. Total program tuition including all six courses is $5,370.00. Most course materials are included.

Start Date Marketing courses are open enrollment and offered throughout the year. Courses may be taken in any order, however, students with no experience or formal academic training in marketing are required to take Principles of Marketing as the first course. Please see course schedule below for the next start date.

Program Overview

The Certificate in Marketing program is designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed as marketing professionals. Developed in collaboration with the American Marketing Association - DC and taught by experienced practitioners and academics, the certificate addresses marketing and communication issues in today's evolving and highly competitive business environment. Covering both theory and practice, the core courses emphasize the fundamentals of planning, research, and integration while the electives offer insight into a range of relevant topics applicable to today's rapidly changing marketing landscape.

Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will:

  • Develop a sound foundation in contemporary marketing theory and practice
  • Employ quantitative and qualitative research methods to support data-driven decision-making
  • Create comprehensive and targeted marketing plans
  • Align and integrate marketing messaging and campaigns with an organization's strategic objectives
  • Execute a marketing campaign

Certificate Requirements

To receive the Certificate in Marketing from Georgetown University, students must successfully complete four (4) required courses and two (2) electives for a total of 10.80 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 108.0 contact hours. All six courses must be completed within a two-year period.

Please note: As of May 15, 2016 the Marketing curriculum has been updated in recognition of emerging industry patterns and student feedback. Students who began coursework before May 15, 2016 may be grandfathered under the old certificate requirements.

Program Prerequisites

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • No prior knowledge of marketing is expected. However, students with no experience or formal academic training in marketing are required to take Principles of Marketing as the first course.

International Students

Georgetown University cannot sponsor student visas for non-credit professional certificate programs, however, international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses. A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
