Program Description

The digital marketing landscape has changed more in the past two years than in the previous twenty. The transformation of the web by way of rapid adoption of mobile and social media to engage customers in dynamic, multiparty conversations is revolutionizing how marketers operate, and the skills they need to be successful.

The Certificate in Digital Marketing program is designed to introduce students to the world of multi-channel marketing, and provide them with the advanced technical skills and marketing savvy they need to identify, engage, and develop relationships with customers in a digital environment.

Designed For

The ideal candidate for the Digital Marketing Certificate program has three to five years of experience and is currently working in an advertising, marketing, public relations or social media role within an agency, corporation, government agency, or nonprofit organization.

Startup entrepreneurs and independent consultants can also benefit greatly from attending this certificate program.

Career & Industry Outlook

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, demand for marketing professionals will be strong through 2020 as the profession becomes more technical, specialized, and strategic. Significant growth is projected for market research analysts and marketing specialistsas well as public relations managers while moderate growth is projected for marketing and sales managers. Specifically, demand for marketing and sales managers will grow by 12% - 14% through 2020 (about as fast as average) while demand for market research analysts will increase 41% through 2020 (much faster than average). Certificate Requirements

To receive the Certificate in Digital Marketing from Georgetown University, students must successfully complete the four (4) required courses and two (2) elective courses for a total of 10.80 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 108.0 contact hours. Students must complete the program within a two-year time frame.

Program Registration

This certificate is an open enrollment program. No application is required and registration is available by clicking the course links below. Current students must register with their Georgetown NetID and password. New students must first create an account and password through the Student Portalprior to registration. After your account is created, you will receive a Georgetown NetID via email. When you have your Georgetown NetID and password, continue registration by clicking "Add to Cart" on the course registration page, logging in, and following the steps to complete checkout. Course registration is complete when payment is processed and you receive a confirmation email.

Program Prerequisites

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of experience in a position in the public, private, or non-profit sector.
  • Participants should have fundamental marketing skills. Those with limited skills or experience may benefit from courses in our Marketing or Social Media Management certificate programs, which may be taken prior to enrolling in this program.
  • A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write, and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
  • Any requests for exceptions to these requirements must be made in writing to the director at CCPE.

Program Tuition

Tuition is $895-1,095.00 per course. Total program tuition, including all six courses, is $5,370-5570.00. Participants pay per course and payment is due at the time of registration. Withdrawals and refunds are processed based on the Withdrawal and Refund Policy.

Members of the American Marketing Association are eligible for a 10% tuition discount on each course. To receive the discount email your NetID and AMA membership number to for verification. New students will need to first create an account in My SCS. Your account will be registered as eligible and you may select the AMA discount during the checkout process.

Tuition discounts are only applicable at the time of registration, are not applied retroactively, and cannot be combined.

This program also qualifies for Veterans Affairs Benefits for eligible students.

Tuition Payment Considerations

While non-credit professional certificate programs do not qualify for federal financial aid, prospective students should consider the following for tuition payment:

  • Seek employer funding or reimbursement
  • Enroll in our interest-free payment plan
  • Use Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits/ GI Bill
  • Apply for a private education loan
  • Register for individual courses over multiple semesters

Program Format & Schedule

Courses meet Friday evenings and Saturdays. Occasionally, courses may meet on weekdays during the day or evening. Generally, all courses are offered each semester, though some courses may be available in the spring or fall semester only. Refer to individual course pages below for schedules.

Program Materials

Most course materials are included in the cost of tuition. Course materials will be distributed in digital format and accessible through Blackboard, Georgetown's learning management system. Students must have a laptop or tablet computer to access course materials.

International Students

Non-credit professional certificate programs are classified as part-time education programs. As a result, Georgetown University cannot sponsor international students for student visas (F-1) to enroll in certificate programs. However, prospective international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses.
