Course Description

The second session is designed for students to learn the importance of “use of self” in OD work. We start with self awareness. Through assessments, reflective journaling, small group discussion and full class engagement, we will build our understanding of how one’s biases, preferences, social identities, history, leadership and conflict styles shape how we see, interpret and engage with others. With heightened awareness of self and others, we will deepen our work to create a thriving learning community, and apply what we learn to the task of entering a system and collaborating with clients and stakeholders to design an OD engagement process.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, successful students will be able to:

  • Describe how “presence” is as important as the knowledge and skills an OD practitioner brings to their work.
  • Articulate how their identities, workstyles, and experiences may affect their leadership and their impact as an instrument of change.
  • Explain the basic neuroscience of stress and trauma and their relevance to working with leaders, groups and organizations.
  • Recognize stress indicators and craft strategies to recover to a centered presence
  • Translate the techniques used to lay the foundation for a strong learning community to their work in building strong and healthy partnerships and organizational systems.
  • Explain the steps of the OD change process and design the entry and contracting phases of an OD engagement.
