Course Description

One of the most important roles of a project manager is to successfully lead a team.  This course takes a close look at how to design and support teams to optimize performance by establishing enabling conditions. By focusing on these conditions, a foundation is established to maximize team performance.  During the course, students will also examine effective leadership characteristics, the key differences between managing and leading a team, and the importance of adaptive leadership. Strategies for addressing obstacles to team effectiveness such as virtual environments and conflicts will be addressed. Finally, key aspects of diversity and inclusion will be reviewed as it relates to creating a collaborative project team environment.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course a student should be able to: 

  1. Design effective teams to optimize team performance 

  2. Demonstrate effective leadership skills to support team performance 

  3. Manage group conflict and reduce other obstacles to team performance by promoting a collaborative team environment 

  4. Analyze the influences of diversity on group interaction
