Writing, research, and relationship-building—these are the foundational pillars of the Master’s in Public Relations & Corporate Communications program at Georgetown University. “Most important is writing,” says Faculty Director Kerry O’Grady, Ed.D. “If you want a message to stick, it must be clear, concise, persuasive, and humane.” And this writing must be backed up by research—the second pillar—“because data drives our decision-making.” The final pillar is relationship-building. “To build real, long-lasting relationships, you must be authentic and transparent,” she says. At Georgetown, the curriculum is always evolving to meet the demands of the industry, O’Grady says, and it is taught by PR professionals, “so what you learn in class can immediately be applied in your current job or the job you’re dreaming of next.”
