Today’s competitive video game industry is driving record online viewership (32 million League of Legends Season 3 World Championship viewers, 2013), outpacing any other traditional sport. Game publishers are hosting events on a Super Bowl-level stage, on-air talent meets the professional standards of any traditional broadcast commentator, production companies are setting the bar for online broadcasts, and heroes from all parts of the globe are emerging left and right. There are more opportunities than ever before to build legitimate careers in eSports; however, the landscape still has many obstacles to overcome.

Technology Management and Sports Industry Management master’s programs will host eSports industry leaders and experts, who will share advice on how to make a career out of competitive video gaming and how to contribute to the rapidly changing digital media landscape.Open to all SCS (School of Continuing Studies) students and free of charge, the panel will also be broadcast via live stream at battlegrounds.redbull.com, inviting students and enthusiasts across the nation to participate.

The panel is presented by Red Bull Battle Grounds, which will conduct its Grand Finals event, the culmination of a national competitive video game tournament circuit, on September 20–21, 2014. Eight professional StarCraft II players will compete in a video game tournament in front of a live audience at the Lincoln Theatre, marking the first StarCraft II tournament to hit D.C. in more than four years.

Panelists include:

  • Director of Community & Education, Twitch.tv - Marcus ‘djWHEAT’ Graham
  • 15-year Veteran eSports Journalist - Rod ‘Slasher’ Breslau
  • Vice President, ESL America - Craig Levine

The panel will also be shown on live stream at battlegrounds.redbull.com, beginning 6:30 p.m.
