Global Citizenship in Higher Education

Today’s graduates are critically dependent on their education to meet the challenges of an interconnected world. And it’s our responsibility as higher education professionals to promote global mindedness and prepare future global citizens. Some ways to achieve this are through campus internationalization efforts, study abroad and exchange programs, and initiatives that promote diversity within universities. But today we are seeing turbulent politics, nationalistic rhetoric, and a tightening of borders. What actionable items can we share to cultivate not only best practices but also an appreciation for a global citizenry within our own institutions and communities?

Moderator:

Panelists:

  • Kelly J. Otter, Ph.D., Dean, Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies
  • Amol Dani, CFO, Georgetown University, Main Campus & Former COO, Georgetown University, Qatar Campus
  • Dr. John Lucas, President and CEO, International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP)
  • Dr. Alfred Boll, Branch Chief, EducationUSA, US Department of State
