Housing Policies in the DMV

Housing Policies in the DMV

RSVP

Presented by the Georgetown Graduate Planning Society

Before COVID, housing rents were skyrocketing, dozens of residents were being evicted daily, and 35 percent of people living in the region were cost-burdened. Since COVID, a number of new phenomena have emerged: luxury rents are fallingmillions of people in the United States are at risk of eviction, and the percentage of people in the region who are cost-burdened has almost doubled. The policy solutions to these issues and more will be explored during an afternoon lunch panel discussing housing policies in the DMV. We will be joined by experts in federal housing policy, community advocacy, and local government. This event is open to the public, but may be especially useful for students in Urban and Regional Planning, as the panel will be followed by a Q&A session about professional development.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Jenny Scheutz, Professor and Brookings Institution Fellow on urban economics and housing affordability (moderator)
  • Regina Gray, Director of Affordable Housing Research and Technology at HUD
  • Dr. Danilo Pelletiere, Senior Advisor focusing on policy and legislative affairs at DHCD
