Jay Holcomb is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Continuing Studies (SCS).

Professor Holcomb teaches cybersecurity courses. His experience includes both cybersecurity technical and policy areas. He has worked for over 30 years exclusively in the information technology, information assurance, and cybersecurity fields, to include the technical areas of network and system administration, web and database application development, perimeter defense, and security environments. For the past 20 years, he has concentrated in information assurance and security.

Professor Holcomb has worked in the federal, defense contracting, and private sectors. He has also consulted and owned his own technical solutions/security company. He was a full-time professor at the National Defense University and has over 20 years of experience as an adjunct professor at several universities.

Professor Holcomb’s interests include intrusion detection technologies, network vulnerability testing and analysis, web application security testing and analysis, penetration testing, and security auditing/reporting.

He holds the following security certifications:

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
  • GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN)
  • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)

In addition, he has held the following legacy certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT)
  • Certified ColdFusion 5.0 Developer

Professor Holcomb earned a M.B.A. from San Jose State University and a B.S. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland.
