What is an interesting trend emerging in your field?
One of the most interesting emerging trends I see for communications professionals is within employment branding. As the economy improves and the millennial generation becomes a more influential part of the workforce, employers are going to need to consider a new type of marketing that involves making their employment attractive to potential candidates.
How do you give back?
As a teacher in the Peace Corps I helped students in rural areas of Tanzania learn English. I also taught about malaria and AIDS prevention, problems endemic to that region. Back here in the U.S., I've been affiliated with several non-profit efforts, including tutoring and teaching low literacy adults through Alameda Reads in California.
What has been your most unique learning experience?
Here at Georgetown in the Digital Crisis Management class, students are asked to get up and spin a crisis wheel. Students get a random crisis to solve while the class watches. This experience made me think about how important it is to be agile and think on my feet.
