Describe an interesting trend you see emerging in your profession and how you think it will affect the field:
The skill of being able to tell a succinct, interesting story is something that is valuable, and will only become more valuable in the years to come. Storytelling can make a social media campaign sticky and successful. Storytelling can help make an email fundraising campaign worth opening and scrolling through. Storytelling can make even the driest of topics seem interesting and worth paying attention to, which is why storytelling is becoming a major trend throughout the field.
What has been your most unique learning experience and why?
Playing collegiate varsity athletics was one of the most challenging and rewarding learning experiences of my life. Most young professionals learn teamwork, collaboration, dealing with difficult personalities, time management, and flexibility throughout their early twenties while working in an office. I learned all of these skills by the time I was 18 on the softball field. There's nothing that builds character more than balancing lifts, practices, team meetings, internships, homework, and classes all at the same time for three long years!
