Alan Fram retired in the fall of 2022 after a four-decade career with The Associated Press. He spent most of that time covering Congress, focusing on issues including the federal budget, immigration, health care, congressional races and House and Senate leadership. He also covered polling and lobbying, and spent two years overseeing the AP Washington bureau's coverage of defense and foreign affairs. He initially came to Washington as a regional reporter covering the New Jersey congressional delegation and issues of interest to that state, including environment. Before joining The AP, Fram worked for two local New York State newspapers: The Albany Times-Union and the Middletown Times Herald-Record. Fram received a master's of journalism degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and graduated from the City College of New York with a bachelor of arts degree in history.
