Ideal for Professionals seeking comprehensive insight into the franchise community and Individuals looking to earn class time towards their Certified Financial Executive (CFE) designation from the International Franchise Association (IFA).
Program Format Courses typically meet for three consecutive days—Thursday through Saturday—once per month at our downtown Washington, D.C. campus.
Program Length Three courses over one semester. Students are not required to enroll continuously and have up to two years to complete the program.
Program Cost Tuition is $1,650.00 per course. Total program tuition for all three courses is $4,950.00. Most course materials are included.

Start Date Franchise Management courses are open enrollment and typically offered in the spring and fall semesters each year. Please see course schedule below for the next start date.

Program Overview

The Georgetown University Certificate in Franchise Management program provides students with a comprehensive overview of the franchise sector. Participants gain critical insight, practical knowledge, and analytical skills required to succeed in franchising. The program features a combination of lectures, case studies, and expert guest speakers, as well as small groups work with presentations and peer review.

The courses are approved for franchise professionals working towards achievement of the Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) designation from the International Franchise Association (IFA). Program participants receive 1350 CFE credits toward the CFE designation awarded by the IFA.(IFA). To complete the education requirement for the CFE designation, candidates must earn a total of 2500 CFE credits, of which a minimum of 1300 CFE credits must be earned in class.

Program Objectives

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Determine critical success factors for managing a franchise
  • Leverage emerging trends in the franchise industry
  • Gain insight, practical knowledge, and analytical skills required to succeed in franchising

Certificate Requirements

To receive the Certificate in Franchise Management from Georgetown University, students must successfully complete three (3) required courses for a total of 6.30 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), which is equivalent to 63.0 contact hours. All three courses must be completed within a two-year period.

Program Prerequisites

Program participants must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent.

International Students

Georgetown University cannot sponsor student visas for non-credit professional certificate programs, however, international students who enter the U.S. on a valid visa are eligible to enroll in courses. For more information, please see our Frequently Asked Questions. A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program.
