Elham Atashi

Dr. Elham Atashi is Director and Teaching Professor of the Justice and Peace Studies Program (JUPS).

Bio and Featured Works

Her scholarship examines local peacebuilding, transitional justice, memory studies, ethnic conflict, and political violence, with a particular focus on how societies confront the legacies of violence, historical injustice, and contested memory. As a conflict resolution specialist, she has advised numerous organizations on strategies for addressing human rights violations, historical injustices, and in dealing with the consequences of violent conflict in post-conflict societies. A trained mediator and dialogue facilitator, Dr. Atashi designs and leads initiatives that foster dialogue across conflict divides. She received advanced negotiation training through the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. Throughout her career, she has facilitated dialogue and peacebuilding programs with youth and community leaders from Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Uganda, Rwanda, and Israel-Palestine. Her current research explores the role of memory, place, and intergenerational narratives in shaping reconciliation processes in post-conflict societies.
