Message from the Faculty Director

Sports are a universal language spoken around the world. A glue that brings society together in times of triumph and tragedy, sports empower people to think differently, work collaboratively, and confront adversity through perseverance. Georgetown University’s Sports Industry Management program is uniquely positioned to educate the future leaders of the profession through a deep commitment to ethics, leadership, and service. A vibrant learning community that proudly celebrates the Jesuit values of thinking, reflecting, and acting with intention, our program strives for excellence by educating and empowering students to think globally while serving the common good through actions and words.

An innovative curriculum that prioritizes critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and ethical reasoning, courses are taught by world-class practitioners across three modalities. As leaders of the profession, the faculty have cultivated a rigorous academic experience that is applied in nature and challenges students to use a myriad of skills when confronting complex problems in the business of sports. Students are encouraged to actively engage in constructive dialogues around sensitive topics while building meaningful relationships with classmates and faculty that will last a lifetime.

Synonymous with prestige and prominence since its inception in 2008, the beauty of Georgetown University’s Sports Industry Management program begins with its commitment to teaching the whole person in unprecedented times of global uncertainty and instability. Through self-reflection, students develop an idealistic approach to how they can become agents of change in the business of sports while being supported by an extraordinary group of faculty and administrators.

    Now in his 18th year as a faculty member with the Sports Industry Management program, Bobby Goldwater is the Faculty Director of the new executive masters program, Global Sports Operations & Strategy, an innovative and immersive educational collaboration between Georgetown Universitys School of Continuing Studies and the Manchester City Football Club of the Premier League, that will launch in fall 2026.One of the most respected and innovative executives in the sports, entertainment and venue management industry, Mr. Goldwater has had a distinguished career in New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Mr. Goldwater was President and Executive Director of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission with the primary responsibility of leading the District of Columbia’s efforts to bring Major League Baseball back to the Nation’s Capital, a project that was successfully completed with the announcement in September 2004 of the relocation of the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals.Prior to coming to Washington, Mr. Goldwater established a record of achievement at two of the most prestigious addresses in the business.
