Lithium-ion-Equipped Micromobility Device Policy

Due to the danger of fire safety presented by lithium-ion-equipped micromobility devices, Georgetown University is banning them from all university-owned and operated buildings. This policy covers the storage and charging of all micromobility devices equipped with lithium-ion batteries, including e-scooters, e-bikes, and hoverboards.

Please note: Micromobility devices that are necessary due to a disability or medical reason will still be permitted.

When lithium batteries fail to charge safely or are damaged, they may present a fire and/or explosion hazard. This policy has been implemented out of an abundance of caution to protect your safety and applies to all Georgetown University students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Storage Information

  • These devices may be stored in outdoor bike rack locations (at individuals’ own risk) and approved interior bike storage areas in the 111 Massachusetts Ave NW parking garage.
