Message from the Faculty Director

Global professional sports is a thriving, multi-billion-dollar industry that is expanding and evolving every day, requiring its current and future leaders to be more resourcefully prepared and strategically adept to lead in this rapidly changing environment than ever before. In response to this reality, Georgetown University and the Manchester City Football Club are teaming up to embark on a first-of-its-kind international education collaboration, the Executive Master's in Professional Studies in Global Sports Operations & Strategy.

Two preeminent organizations that are known worldwide, Georgetown in higher education and Manchester City in international football, are offering an immersive and unparalleled learning experience led by industry insiders and educators who are respected experts in sports management, operations, and strategy. Current mid-to-senior-level professionals, aspiring leaders, and career changers in sports or other high-performance business sectors seeking to advance in professional sports will find our curriculum to be essential for their future.

Our goal is to equip motivated executives with the tools they need to successfully address the challenges and opportunities in professional sports. The approach will be comprehensive and accessible, with our world-class faculty providing practical lessons that can be confidently applied in operational and strategic settings. Georgetown and Manchester City have a shared vision and mutual set of values that see sports as an impactful vehicle for transforming lives and creating a meaningful community impact. With this in mind, we are presenting five online asynchronous courses that will be completed in 12 months and will also feature in-person, interactive, five-day residencies in Manchester, England, New York City, and Washington, D.C. that will include tours of renowned sports venues and meetings with top industry executives.

    Now in his 18th year as a faculty member with the Sports Industry Management program, Bobby Goldwater is the Faculty Director of the new executive masters program, Global Sports Operations & Strategy, an innovative and immersive educational collaboration between Georgetown Universitys School of Continuing Studies and the Manchester City Football Club of the Premier League, that will launch in fall 2026.One of the most respected and innovative executives in the sports, entertainment and venue management industry, Mr. Goldwater has had a distinguished career in New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Mr. Goldwater was President and Executive Director of the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission with the primary responsibility of leading the District of Columbia’s efforts to bring Major League Baseball back to the Nation’s Capital, a project that was successfully completed with the announcement in September 2004 of the relocation of the Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals.Prior to coming to Washington, Mr. Goldwater established a record of achievement at two of the most prestigious addresses in the business.
