Gregory S. Smith, is an internationally recognized IT executive with a 27 years of experience managing complex IT and business systems.
Mr. Smith serves as the Chief Information Officer, Vice President of Technology and Operations for a Maryland-based global non-profit organization. Previously, Mr. Smith served for a total of 13 years as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Pew Charitable Trusts and as the Vice President and CIO for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Washington, DC. Mr. Smith’s for-profit experience combines IT / business acumen from defense, financial services, and consulting experience from SRA International, through SallieMae and completing as a Principal with PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Gregory S. Smith is an honoree of the following awards: SmartCEO magazine Top 10 CIOs in Washington DC in 2011, Computer World magazine Premier 100 IT Leaders in 2007, CIO magazine CIO 100 in 2003 and eWeek magazine Top 100 CIOs also in 2007. Mr. Smith was recognized as one of the Top 100 Most Influential CIOs by CIO Insight magazine in 2007.
Mr. Smith is the author of Straight to the Top: CIO Leadership in a Mobile, Social, and Cloud-based World (Wiley 2013), How to Protect Your Children on the Internet: A Road Map for Parents and Teachers (Greenwood 2007) and Straight to the Top: Becoming a World-Class CIO (Wiley 2006). In addition to his corporate work, Mr. Smith is an Internet safety expert and has spoken nationally on the topic of Internet risks for children. He speaks internationally on various business and complex technology leadership.
Mr. Smith received a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland at College Park and an M.S. in Business from The Johns Hopkins University, where he also served for over 10 years as an adjunct faculty member in the Carey Business School, graduate programs.
