Kenneth Joh
Kenneth Joh serves on the faculty of the Urban & Regional Planning program and is a Principal Statistical Survey Analyst at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
He has nearly two decades of experience working with transportation and household travel surveys. Dr. Joh oversaw the once-a-decade Regional Travel Survey, which collected detailed demographic and travel behavior information from about 16,000 households, the largest household travel survey ever conducted for the DC region. More recently, Dr. Joh has conducted a literature review of transportation surveys focusing on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel behavior and was featured in the webinar, “What’s “normal” anyway?”. He has provided technical oversight and expertise on numerous other transportation surveys.
Dr. Joh currently serves as Secretary of the Travel Survey Methods Committee (AEP 25) of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and is Co-Chair of the Household Travel Survey Subcommittee. Joh has extensive academic experience and has published nearly two dozen articles in leading urban planning journals and has taught over 20 graduate and undergraduate courses. He has advised over 50 graduate students on professional projects that led to job placements in the field of transportation planning.
He holds a Doctorate of Planning, Policy, and Design from the University of California at Irvine, a Master of Urban Planning from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at San Diego.
