What Is: Supply Chain Management

Problem-solving, collaboration, an understanding of processes, and strong communication skills—these are some of the attributes required for the field of supply chain management. “When you hear the term ‘supply chain,’ you might think it’s a linear process,” says Linda Dunn, Faculty Director of the Master’s in Supply Chain Management program at Georgetown University. “But what people consider a supply chain is really more of a supply web with strands leading off in all directions.” And that means that moving a product from Point A to Point B and beyond is a lot more complex than it sounds and requires talented and highly skilled professionals. “Jobs in supply chain management are taking off,” and at Georgetown, supply chain management students learn the expertise needed to manage global supply chains and increase technological fluency to prepare for the future.
