Chevonne Mansfield, director of communications for LEAD1 Association, is having a fascinating—and successful—career in college sports, and she says the key to doing that is to follow some time-honored practices. “It’s a competitive field,” says Mansfield, whose organization represents athletic directors from 130 NCAA Division I schools. “But I do think, if you build your relationships, and get your work experience, and maybe have some patience, then you’ll get to be where you want to be.” Here, Mansfield talks with Daniel Kelly, faculty director of Georgetown’s graduate program in Sports Industry Management, about what it’s like to go from inputting statistics at college games to advocating for the future of Division I sports.
