Scott Wayne
Scott has over 25 years of experience in sustainable destination, tourism and hospitality industry development from local to international levels. He has worked on more than 50 projects in more than 50 countries. He specializes in applying the UN Sustainable Development Goals to infrastructure, public-private partnerships, MSME tourism development, economic and environmental impact assessments, investment, marketing, product development, policy making and strategic planning for inclusive sustainable destination development. His clients have included the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, World Trade Organization, USAID, private sector, governments, and non-governmental organizations in more than 50 countries in every region. Some recent experience includes advising the Asian Development Bank on multiple projects to help Asia-Pacific countries recover from COVID-19, World Bank in Slovakia on adventure travel, the World Bank in Saudi Arabia on tourism development and urban regeneration through cultural heritage, advising the Ras Al Khaimah Government on a new tourism strategy, the World Trade Organization in Sierra Leone, and multiple other Governments on new directions for their tourism sectors, creating national level tourism development and investment strategies for the South Pacific, the Republic of Georgia, market feasibility for a new boutique hotel group in South East Europe, Montenegro Tourism Policy Analysis, Regional Competitiveness programs, hotel quality standards systems, and cruise industry strategy. Previously, he headed the North America office of the World Travel & Tourism Council, was the Vice President of an internet travel start-up, and the first Chief of Communications at the UN World Tourism Organization. He is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and the University of Southern California’s Schools of International Relations and Public Policy. Scott also studied at the American University in Cairo, the London School of Economics and the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and is the author of numerous articles on tourism development and eight travel books for Lonely Planet and Sierra Club Books. He speaks French, Spanish and Conversational Egyptian Arabic.
