Natural & Tech Hazards & Disasters

This course is restricted to students enrolled in the EDM-GCC program. Explore the multidimensional issues surrounding the planning for and response to disaster events caused by natural hazards, such as severe weather, geophysical events, and slow-onset disasters, as well as those caused by technological hazards, including hazardous material spills or explosions and critical infrastructure failures.

Note: Additional 60 minutes per week of asynchronous instruction is required. Students are required to attend residency in Muscat, Oman November 9-14, 2019.

Theory & Regional Collaboration Framework

This course is restricted to students enrolled in the EDM-GCC program. Study the strategic, operational, and legal frameworks of a regionally based emergency management organization. Analyze the processes and relationships that define interagency and international cooperation, including the sharing of technology and information, the differing roles between leadership of and support to an emergency response operation, international logistics, and region-wide risk assessment.

Note: Additional 60 minutes per week of asynchronous instruction is required. Students are required to attend residency in Washington, DC September 23-28, 2019. Minimum grade of "B" is required to continue eligibility toward graduation.
