Sonya Sims

Sonya D. Sims has over 25 years of progressive experience in business consulting, change management, higher education and public sector project management, human resources, leadership coaching, and organizational development.

Ms. Sims currently serves as the Director of Human Resources at Georgetown University Medical Center where she is responsible for managing complex HR Projects, providing guidance on organizational restructuring, and building strategic business relationships with faculty, managers, and directors to proactively support and deliver effective HR services and programs.


Prior to returning to Georgetown, Ms. Sims managed the Human Resources department at Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and she has also utilized her human resources, coaching, and business consulting skills in various roles in the private and public sectors; including Sr. Project Manager with Winbourne Consulting, LLC, Human Resources Consultant with US Airways and Arthur Andersen, and Public Affairs Specialist with the Executive Office of the Mayor of Washington, DC. 


Ms. Sims received her B.A. degree in Political Science and Public Relations from Howard University and her M.S. degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Mind, Brain Learning. Ms. Sims was one of thirty-four participants (out of an international pool of applicants) accepted into Georgetown University’s Center for Transformational Leadership where she received her Leadership Coaching certification.
