John Lucus

Dr. John Lucas brings two decades of experience in higher education and student mobility.

He currently serves as President and CEO of ISEP Study Abroad, the world's largest network dedicated to student exchange and study abroad with over 350 member universities in 60 countries. ISEP is a global non-profit organization, originally conceived and founded at Georgetown University in1979. ISEP became a fully independent membership organization in the1990's.


Dr. Lucas is also Chair of the Forum on Education Abroad and a member of the President's Global Advisory Council of World Learning. Dr. Lucas has previously served as Provost of the School for International Training and Associate Vice President of IES Abroad. Dr. Lucas also brings 12 years professional experience in Spain, directing international programs for IES, CIEE and the Institute for Social and International Studies at Portland State University. Dr. Lucas has taught Spanish, intercultural communication, translation, and language pedagogy.


Dr. Lucas has published on global education, language, and intercultural communication and is an active member of several international education associations and cultural societies. He holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Spanish from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in international education from The School for International Training.
